Congratulations - you’ve made it through the holidays! 2016 is here, and it’s time to set your eyes on the prize, and start tackling those business New Year’s resolutions.  

If your business goals for the year include attracting more new clients, keeping your existing ones loyal, or increasing your profitability, executing a consistent marketing calendar is key.

If you’re struggling to find twelve topics to fill out your calendar, the good news is that the year is filled with holidays and events that provide the perfect opportunity to promote your business. Here are some ideas to get you started: 


In January, your clients are thinking about a fresh start, making it the perfect time to consider a New Year makeover special. It's also the perfect time to upsell any treatments or services to nourish damaged winter skin or hair.

Help your clients spread the love on Valentine's Day with a gift card promotion. As well as email campaigns, don't forget signage on your windows and social media pages to catch the eye of your clients' significant others.

It's time to get patriotic! Many of your clients will be headed to Independence Day/Canada Day events this month, so help them get into the spirit by promoting fun patriotic services. Temporary red, white and blue hair color, or flag themed mani/pedis anyone?

Baby it's hot outside! Why not throw a sizzling summer sale, promoting strategic products and services? You can also use this time to highlight any services on your menu that help clients beat the heat - think cooling facial, anti-frizzing treatments etc.

As students head back to school, now is the perfect time to build your scholarly client base. Consider offering a special student price on certain slower days and promoting this to your database.

As well as spooky Halloween specials, October is the time to start promoting your holiday offerings. Invite clients to pre-book their holiday party appointments, host an educational event on how to mtaintain salon styles at home, and bundle retail products together into gift packages.

Black Friday & Cyber Monday aren't just for big retailers - they are also the perfect chance for you to generate revenue for the coming months. You could do a buy one, get one free gift card special for clients - not only do you get an immediate sale, but if they pass them on to friends, you get two potential new clients.

With the holidays in full swing, you might be tempted to forget about marketing for the month - however now is the time to book clients in for January/February to protect yourself from the dreaded post-festive slow-down.
